9SIX Media started in late 2008, the "natural" successor of Epi.Ska Graphics - the handle under which Greek rapper/designer Sifu VERSUS signed his designs. It's still a one-man show, with Sifu handling every 9SIX assignment personally.
Why 9SIX?
Basically, because '96 was a good year. Music was good, styles were good, everything was good (or so the man thinks). With 9SIX Media being mainly a Hip Hop oriented business (and the term is being used rather freely, because it's more than that), the main goal is to give a '96 boom bap-ish feeling to everything – not necessarily in terms of aesthetics, but mainly on a subconscious level.
It goes deeper than that, though. 9 and 6 both resemble (more than 'resemble' actually, but that's another story) spirals. The notion that everything moves up (or down, your choice) "round, like a circle and a spiral" is reflected in the choice of the two digits. Not to mention that they both are multiples of 3, which, by oriental standards (and occidental ones, because "three is the magic number") is powerful...
